About
Modish is a daily blog celebrating handmade goods, the people who create them and the shoppers that buy them, run by Jena Coray. Modish (pronounced: mō'dĭsh) means stylish, and was created in April 2006 to present handmade goods as stylish, practical and unique alternatives to the hum-drum and homogeneous mass-produced goods that we are inundated with on a daily basis. Featuring handmade product reviews and guides, a huge monthly giveaway and a variety of columns that let us peek into the lives of the people behind the handmade movement, Modish seeks to inspire its readers with independent art and design and encourage them to buy handmade, whenever they can.
Modish editor Jena Coray is a writer and long time creator. She originally started Modish as a way to promote her own jewelry business along with fellow indie businesses, but it grew so large, so fast, that her jewelry soon fell by the wayside to support her first passion, writing. In April 2007 though, her shopkeeper fingers started itching again and she opened the Modish Handmade Goods shoppe to make it easier for her readers to purchase all the lovely handmade goods she writes about, and soon after was able to quit her day job and dedicate herself to the Modish blog and shoppe full time. She's even making jewelry again! She feels honored to be part of the handmade community as a creator, business owner and editorial voice and feels excited everyday she gets to share a new handmade talent with her readers, put new items into her shoppe, or sit down to make a pair of earrings.
