Pack Rat

I just found out that Modish was written about on a pretty new, cool blog at Pack Rat Magazine!  Check out the blog here, and while you're there scope out the crafty articles, diy tutorials, goods for sale in the "attic" and more!  Thanks so much for the write up Meghan!

Blog to love!

I have a new favorite blog- "How about orange..."  How about, it's great!  It features diy tutorials (like how to make the cute fabric covered push pins below- I can't wait to try!) links to fun quizzes (check out the results of my right brain/left brain quiz on my personal blog), pretty desktop wallpaper you can download, and design stuff.  Written by a semi-sarcastic graphic designer who likes the color orange, it's just the bee's knees and I'm so bummed I didn't find it sooner!  I have already sought fit to exploit it fully for procrastination purposes and thought that you might like to do the same.

gold school

There's another new indie shopping blog on the block, this one written by one of favorite jewelry designers, Danielle Maveal!  She has some awesome finds already, including Dear Pony (who made the shirt below.)  Keep up on the eyeful at gold school!

Rollin' with the blogroll

Howdy folks, there's a new indie/crafty/design blog in town called Pretty Crafty Thing that I thought you may like to check out.  It's written by Shelly Kerry, the same woman behind these incredibly lovely earrings!
Emcimg0132She's been added to the blogroll, which, if you haven't checked out lately, has been revamped as a post so it's easier for me to edit and mark things as new, and it helps keep the sidebar a little less cluttered.  Find it under the Daily digs section on the left as -> view the entire blogroll.  Have fun exploring the blogosphere!

Where in the world is, Nebo Peklo?

I discovered Nebo Peklo as the Typepad Featured blog yesterday and recognized that flowery header instantly...where have I seen those flowers before?  Ahh, one of my favorite stores of course, Papa StourSkeletonleafsp_1Why, they're so pretty!  And, look!  The artist behind Nebo Peklo, Natalie Tweedie, also donated work to the Kim family auction?  Yeah, now I recognize it...why have I not seen her blog before?  Why am I just now putting all the pieces together?  Why am I talking to myself?  And then, I shut up and let my fingers do the surfing and found this wonderful limited edition Gocco print, Skeleton Leaf.  It's available in her shop, and I have a feeling her work tends to sell fast, as is evidenced by her sold gallery.  So now that I've done the scavenger hunt, follow the trail and discover a little bit of Nebo Peklo for yourself!

Mixed Plate Blog of the week!

Mixed_plate_bannerThe lovely Liana behind the Mixed Plate blog has started featuring a blog of the week and guess who her debut blog of the week choice was?  Design sponge!  No no, just kidding.  Why, it's Modish, of course!  Check out the post and check out the blog.  Thank you Liana, for the feature!

It's spreading...

The indie word, the indie fixation, it's catching, it's spreading and more people want to talk about it.  The handmade movement hath fury, my friends!!  I've recently discovered three, count 'em three new blogs that are focusing on indie designers and handmade goods in their own way.  So, in hopes to spread the love and spread the word about independent goods even further, I'd like to introduce you to them.  There's lots of amazing indie designers that deserve to be featured, so it's a welcome surprise to see three other ladies taking on the endeavor:

Indie Fixx- brought to you by Jen of Tilting Swiftly, this blog is a "celebration of the creativity, tenacity, and general spunky goodness that is the indie design movement."

Miss Malaprop- Miss Mallory of Dismantled Designs, a 23 year old craft enthusiast, created a blog to showcase indie products and support her hometown NOLA artists.

Handmade + Totally Awesome- Long since the slogan of Taryn's consignment shop MY MY, she created a new blog with the same name to feature things that are just that, handmade and totally awesome!

*new addition: Indie Obsession- Brandy, behind Oblivious Designs, brings you her own growing list of indie obsessions to help support independent businesses like her own! (thanks Jen!)

Each of these blogs are in their fledgling phase but are sure to become valuable supporters to the indie community.  So go on, click, search, and buy handmade!

Knit me a tofu dog?

In honor of 4th of July, I just had to find you some sort of barbecue themed item.  But what's handmade and BBQ friendly too?  How 'bout these crocheted platters of "meaty goodness" (my vegetarianism forces me to put that phrase in quotes) from Regina, the self proclaimed "Queen of Crocheted Flesh" and author of Monster Crochet, a blog about all her crafty undertakings.
Grillmatburger Grillmatkabobs Grillmatsteak
Yummm, knit food.  It's off kilter and cool, just like many of Regina's other creations.  So, give her blog a looksie, and eat up today!

More for your reading pleasure

158110408_e3b292c1a3_mWell this is just a week of discoveries for me; I've found another new indie fashion blog to tell you all about, this one is geared towards the boys.  It's called Fixed Gear Finds, brought to you by Meredith of ex-boyfriend, and it features indie and handmade goodies for the more hairy sex, from cool screen-printed neckties to bottle openers to tees, you can find something for any just about any guy.  So give it a looksie, you may be surprised what cool guy goods are out there!

New blog on the block

Blue_heart_necklace_2_1 Hey all, there's a new kid in blogtown called Make It written by the oh so sweet Shannon.  It's in its fledgling phase but is sure to become another daily read for us craftin' folk.  It's targeted towards crafters who need advice on turning their passion into a business, or those already established in the indie world who'd like to learn a little more, especially about one another.  Besides it's glowing review of Modish (and me), it also features an interview with an indie business owner (what will hopefully become a staple on the site),  a "make it" business tip and tons of advice from taking good pictures to finding the right canopy to use for a craft fair.  So, take a look at Make It and see what it takes to make it in the world of indie business!
